Bajans love their sport and there are a wide range of sporting activities on the island.
CRICKET
Cricket is played through out Barbados, from beach cricket to Test Matches at Kensington Oval. There are several international matches held at Kensington which have included the finals of the ODI and 20/20 World Cup. Several matches in the regional 20/20 competition the Caribbean Premier League are also played here.
You can take tours of Kensington Oval and there is a small museum close by celebrating West Indian cricketing heroes.
HORSE RACING
The Garrison Savannah is the home of the Barbados Turf Club. A programme of race days is held on Saturdays throughout the year with the most prestigious being the Sandy Lane Gold Cup which is held in March.
POLO
The polo season runs from January to April with visiting international teams. There are polo fields at Holders, Lion Castle and Apes Hill.
MOTOR SPORT
Motor sport is very popular in Barbados. There is a full programme of events across the year including Rallying, go- karting, drag racing and circuit racing. The Bushy Park race track has hosted Top Gear and the international race of champions.
GOLF
There a number of golf courses in Barbados. Sandy Lane hotel has three courses, the Old Nine, the Championship Course (18 holes) and the Green Monkey (18 holes). There are a further three 18 hole courses at Royal Westmorland, Apes Hill and the Barbados Golf Club at Durants. There is also another 9 hole course at the Rockley Resort.
WATER SPORT
There are many opportunities to participate in water sports. Surfing is a very popular sport with many local surfers competing internationally. There are surf schools providing tuition in surfing and kite surfing.
Paddle boarding is very popular as is water Skiing.
There are sailing events most notable the international round the island Mount Gay Race held each year in January.
